Power Results From a 350 Olds!

I haven't posted here for awhile, but I wanted to share some results of how my 350 did on on the dyno so others can have an idea for a build. First, I will show some of the breakdown on what the engine is:
- 68-76 350 bored out .040. It has been decked.
- Flat top Ross pistons
- Main cap ground for straps
- ARP studs.
- Crank 10/10
- Rods are stock with polished beams and floating ARP pins.
- Thumpr Roller Cam 227/241, 107 LSA, 0.556"/0.552" lift
- COMP Roller lifters
- Milodon double roller chain
- ATI damper
- 6051 Edelbrock Aluminum heads milled down for 10.5 to 1 Compression
- 7111 Edelbrock intake port matched (poorly by me haha)
- 1 inch carb spacer
- 680 CFM HR Series from Quick Fuel Technology
- PerTronix Flame Thrower Distributor

I had the engine on the dyno yesterday here at 4900 feet of elevation. Here are the results. 440 horsepower and 451 ft lbs! Not at a bad result for an engine that I got from a guy on Facebook marketplace with some tweaks!

Not bad at all, with enough stall and gear, this will be a sledgehammer in the mid range. Seems to be similar to the recent 358 builds with milled out of box Procomp heads with similar duration cams but less compression, 9.7 to 1. What is the correction factor for your altitude?

I'm hoping that it will match well with my 3.90 rear gears and 2500 stall, but I think it is gonna need more converter. I'm not sure what the dynamic compression ratio is at my altitude. I would have to check.

Rule of thumb is 3-3.5% for every 1000ft.

Thanks Mark. He will be tickling 500 HP at sea level, a bigger carb might get you there. Depends on what torque that converter is rated and where it flashed at before, it may stall higher. The 3.90 gears will definitely help as well.

It’s the other way. Most likely those are corrected numbers. But I could tell better if I had the fuel consumption numbers as well.

Here is an updated result from the dyno. With 447 horsepower and 455 pounds of torque. I could be wrong but Hg readings are pretty good throughout the power with it never getting over 1.3, meaning my carb is appropriately sized.

Yep, but it still doesn’t give me lbs/hr and bsfc.
However the C In front of the hp and tq columns usually means corrected power.
Thank you.

Thanks for the heads up, Mark. I started looking at the sheet and it has a CF section showing what it was corrected with. 1.24 correction all the way through. So we my altitude it is 360 hp and 367 ft lbs.

dont sell yourself short. your sheets show the corrected numbers already. go by them…. that’s the reason why they are corrected in the first place, so there is an apples to apples comparison. showing raw numbers is meaningless

your correction factor was probably to SAE J607 which is 1.23

its a good build.

Excellent 357! Did you stay with your original torque convertor, what did it stall at and did it work with that cam? Have a sound clip @ idle, like the cam?

I have a 2400 Stall converter. I am putting the engine in the car today! So hopefully I can update with a video in the car soon

Thanks CANADIANOLDS! I’m pretty happy with it. I am hoping to run the car before snow flies so I can know what it actually feels like
