If it is the very high temp silver header paint, it will hold up better than most gold paints in that area. Use either Aviation sealant or good RTV on both sides of the cork pan gaskets and RTV in the joins. The coated Felpro OS30471C is the best pan gasket.

Found the engine serial number, or whatever it is called. It matched with the VIN number for my M code car.
Found the engine serial number. Location is on the block just forward of exhaust manifold. Left side of engine. So the car does have original engine, not that it matters much.
By federal mandate all engines & transmissions were required to have a derivative of the VIN (VIN derivative) stamped into the engine block & transmission housing. You'll find the same VIN derivative stamped into the left side of the transmission if the transmission was factory installed indicating matching numbers of engine block + transmission when it rolled off assembly line (explained in the front first several pages of the CSM & the PIM).
1972 PIM VIN Derivative - Block Leading number (3) = Oldsmobile Division; Second number (1) = YOM. Oldsmobile 1971 Year Of Manufacture VIN Derivative - Transmission
