But with that said you only need 425-450 crankshaft hp to run high 11's in a 3800# car, so they still didn't make big power in that form. Plus they had intercoolers and EFI, that helps a lot.
Mostly torque and low rpm shifts kinda like a Pontiac 455 rather than peak HP on the GN I recall some shift at 4800. The low rpm shifts and tons of torque the whole way can skew HP estimates. I would love to do the combo as described a see what happens. I should be able to do more soon as my house is paid off now and just a few remodels and repairs to finish on house plus kids are both in HS now so Dad will get a effective raise next year when the boy graduates if he still goes to Navy .. daughter is a Sophmore now. Paint first thought on the wagon .. Turbo 350 Olds w 3.08s sounds good though. One of my Pontiac heroes on PY has kept his 3.08's on his 80 Trans Am full weight street strip car he drives to track. It is a alum head 455 87 octane N/A combo and has got down to 11.2@121 mph. 3 speed automatic

Isn't that why guys run water meth injection set ups to allow more timing but keep the cylinders cool along with other added Benifits.

Some of the guys did, a methanol water mix to try to prevent pump gas detonation when they pushed the envelope to octane limits.
