opinions on best cam to wake up #8 head 350???

Hey All....opinion time. What's your pick of best cam (factory or aftermarket) for a 350 olds low comp (#8) head motor, auto to wake it up (and no change to stall converter).

I could be wrong but others will chime in and correct me, I have heard that a comp cams Towing cam would give much more torque. Have a look on the Summit website they list one.
Hope this helps

The smallest cam in the Voodoo cam lineup. That should be a 207/213 duration cam. Had that in my 8:1 Olds 350 with 7 heads. Ran best 13.83 in my 442.

With that low compression, you definitely don't want anything too lumpy. I would say no more than 215 degrees duration (@ 0.050) and 0.450 lift on intake OR exhaust.

PS -- What is a "stall converter"?

215 @ .050 is way too much for an 8 to 1 350 with sock heads and manifolds. I was also going to suggest the Voodoo cam that DoubleV did. 60800

I think by "stall converter" he means the stock converter with factory stall speed.

But, with your restrictions (stock manifolds, heads, etc) do not expect a lot, maybe 15-20 ft/lbs at most.

That's probably it.

Also, I did say "no more than". I don't think 215 degrees would be WAY too much, but agree less would probably be better. That Lunati sounds pretty good.

i put the next cam up from that one in my 350 with #8 heads, and i did not "wake up" my 350 but it the car drives nice. i have to swap out my rear gears for something better, i should see a difference there. go from 2:73 to the 3:08 or the 3:21 or whatever the numbers are.

"Stall Converter"
That which converts stall.

change from horse stall to cow stall for example.
Agricultural term.

I guess.

Somewhere along the line "(high stall) [speed] converter" lost the "high" or "low" or other descriptor and became "stall converter"

Much like the fabled "3/4 race cam" from the halcyon days of yore. No one knows.
