Are you new to Oldsmobiles or engines? First thing is to not listen to chevy guys that toss around HP numbers. Oldsmobiles build great torque. In a G body you will have a real fast car with a 455 and not need 500 HP. You can get 500 torque and 400 HP VERY easy with a 455 and in a G body that will scream for the street. If you want 500 HP.... like others said, It is going to cost more money.

Its a 400 trans, yea I'm trying to decide on what size rear to put behid it, and that's a very good point about strength .i had planed on upgrading the springs and shocks,i already upgraded the universal joint but what is the main things i need to upgrade to be able to handle the horsepower and doing doenuts, lol.
and thanks guys for the input,i was surprised to get responses so soon!.
also i wanted to say,i still want to be able to drive the car on the freeway,so from my investigation,373 gears would be too much.how about 342or355 gears .

Welcome to the site, post some pictures when you get a chance. As the others said 400 hp is an easier goal to attain with a lot of torque. You can search the site for a history of build threads to get an idea of what others have done for their builds. Here is a calculator that one of the other members posted a while back for gear ratios.
