olds 350 stall convert and differentials?

I wanted too see what yalls input on my options are. I want my car to be quicker, I have an 84 cutlass supreme with an olds 350 with #4 heads the engine is from 74. I have the option to run a th350 or 2004r, I am leaning towards the 2004r. Also which would be the best gear ratio to get out of the hole quick but not ruin my gas mileage. Also could I run a stall converter. my 350 is around 10 to1 cr and I a rochester 4 bbl on it now its got alot of power but it feels like i cant really feel it. Then again i have 22s on it right now but i am going back to the stock olds rallys. Any input would be really appreciated

A few years back I kinda did the same thing with a 80 Malibu - 350, T-350 and the stock 2:48 gear.
Screamer on the highway, but a bone on the street.
Put a 3:42 gear in it, and it was like installing a 1st gear! Big difference!!
Yes, hwgy mileage went down, but city went way up - kinda a toss-up.
A well-built 200 will offset that.

Try the 3:42's and ask after that.
BB chev in a 65 2dr wagon w/3:55's - changed the car to a monster with a B+M Holeshot, but it had a large cam.
Best to do one thing at a time.

3.42 and 3.73 gears with the 2004r tranny is a proven combo that combines both good acceleration and good milage on a street car. It's probably easier and more cost effective to find a whole new rear end with the gears you want.

What is your overall tire diameter with the 22s? If you go to 15s and the overall diameter is smaller it would be similar to installing lower rear gears.

If the pistons are stock the Cr is nowhere near 10, closer to 8.75. Do you know what cam is in it? Like Fun stated, those tall tires are not helping.

Which one would be better and easier to find, i dont mind sacrificing some fuel economy. And the 22s are probably 24-25"s they only have rubber bands on them. I still would rather have the chrome or black and chrome olds rallys. And i was told it was 10 to 1 by the guy i got it from I dont know what kind of pistons are in it but my friend says its has some decent compression to it. the guy i bought it from also said it has a mild cam in it. Do yall by any chance know how much a used rear end would cost I was told they are like gold and hard to find

Look in the Parts for sale section - yes, not cheap, but worth it as far as finding all the parts and having it set-up by someone who knows what they're doing.
Basically a bolt-in, if complete.

I put a 3:90 gear in with a 200R4 get's about 20MPG and it's real snappy.
