olds 350 burning paint off intake crossover

fresh rebuild on my 72 olds 442 , back all stock. the egr valve has been blocked off now the intake crossover burnt all the paint off those spots (por 15 gold) to a chalky white on the block off plate to bubbly brown on my intake ;[. that amount of heat doesnt seem right to me other than that its running like a top. anything i should look at?

As Eric stated this normal if your crossover is not blocked. You might try a higher temp ceramic paint. I've had good luck with VHT rattle cans from the auto parts store.

All it means is that you drive your car instead of pushing it off and on the trailer. Consider it a badge of honor.

Never knew that a stock 1972 intake had an EGR valve.

California actually required EGR on some cars sold in the state for the 1972 model year.

You'll also notice the same thing will happen in the middle of your heads as well, it's just from heat and is completely normal.

As said the VHT aluminum paint works, getting a gold coloured paint to last is tough. The crossover in the heads and intake get warm, your cast iron intake holds more heat.

Is it a way to block those ports from the intake? I'm having the same issue. I was thinking about getting my intake power coated but any other ideas are welcomed.

1100 degree exhaust gases will cook paint.
