Oil Pressure Sending Unit

This project has turned into a major pain. Trying to install an equus mechanical oil pressure gauge in my 72 Cutlass. I can't find a sending unit anywhere. The gauge is a 100psi with a 180 degree sweep.

I've checked Summit and Jegs, in addition to many other locations. I really want to stick with mechanical for optimum accuracy. Any help would be much appreciated.

I don't understand what you are looking for. A mechanical gauge does not have a sending unit - it uses a pipe to compression fitting in the block and a line (metal, braided steel, or plastic tubing) to the gauge. Sending units are used on electric gauges.

So I just run the copper hose and connect it into the 1/8 inch hole I took the stock electrical sender out of on the front of the block? I guess that's why I haven't been able to find a mechanical sending unit. I feel a bit stupid, but glad I asked. I know about the loop to put in the line for motor vibration. Thanks a bunch! I'm learning as I go.

The thing to do is put a tee in the block where you removed the fitting, permitting you to reinstall the factory set up and your new gauge.

My suggestion is to get the Equus Electrical gauge instead of the mechanical gauge.
The electric oil gauge will support both a Meter gauge and the dash Light at the same time.
Also, you will not have to worry about a leaking oil tube.

So does a simple tee fitting at the oil pressure port on the block. I've never had an oil pressure line leak, and I usually use the cheap plastic ones. As a general rule, mechanical gauges have a wider needle range than electric gauges, which provides a more accurate reading. The reality is, however, that the oil pressure gauge is really used more to see trending than absolute pressure, so either works fine.

Which T-Fitting are you recomending? I bought this one for my 1969 350 engine

Anderson Metals Brass Pipe Fitting, Barstock Street Tee, 1/8" Female Pipe x 1/8" Male Pipe x 1/8" Female Pipe: Industrial Pipe Fittings: Amazon.com: Industrial & Scientific Anderson Metals Brass Pipe Fitting, Barstock Street Tee, 1/8" Female Pipe x 1/8" Male Pipe x 1/8" Female Pipe: Industrial Pipe Fittings: Amazon.com: Industrial & Scientific

but it is not fitting. It colides with the block before it will fasten. So I know I will have to buy either one with a longer thread or use a extension beneath.

What are you guys recommending?

Thanks for any help!

The one you bought won't work. You need a three way female tee, like this:

Then get about a 2" long 1/8 NPT nipple like this to raise it high enough to clear:

Any hardware store sells these items. I got mine at Home Depot.

Ah, I missed your location.

I will say that in France, I've seen NPT fittings. They are labeled in metric sizes (15mm, 17mm, 21mm) but they are actually NPT threads.

Thats interesting, did not know that they will fit and are interchangeablw... you will get npt threads here in germany just not in the next hardware store, you have to look carefully. I ordered it via internet in a special store for fittings, they are cheap there. You can also buy them at us car stores but for a lot more money!

Greetings
