Oil dipstick broke in block

Have a 78 cutlass Supreme with a 350 in it. Oil dipstick tube is broke off right at the block enough to where I can't get anything on it to pry or anything. Tried several bolts and none would thread in. Even tried tapping it and it's either too big or too small. Also tried an EZ out but i csnt get a good enough swing to make it stick in there. My next thought is to put some JB weld on a bolt and let it cure then tap it out from underneath. Anyone have any other suggestions? With the motor still in the car

Several of us have been here before. I used a slide hammer with a sheet metal screw in it. Threaded it into the tube a few turns, a couple pops on the slide hammer and it was out.

Here's a "search" list of folks who had same issue. NOTE: The majority appear to like using a slide-hammer for removal.

I just had this happen to me. I went to the local hardware with the broken dipstick tube and. 15mm socket. I bought a bolt to go through the socket and stick out the end 1-1/2” that was just barely larger than the inside diameter of the tube.

went home, ran the bolt through the socket to sit on the casting boss of the block and used a ratchet to thread the bolt into the broken off tube stuck in the block.

when the bolt screwed into the soft dipstick stuck in the block it threaded itself and cracked the soft tubing. This allowed me to slightly tap the socket side to side and the bolt pulled the broken tube right out!

worked awesome. It costs literally .30 cents.

Drive what’s left of it into the pan. It won’t hurt anything.

done that before
