Ok stupid question sorry forgive me but I just ordered an edelbrock 2711 intake and after I ordered I saw under it it said people who bought this also ordered the " edelbrock intake bolt kit " . Does it not come with the bolts?

 

No bolts..

 

It doesn't come with bolts. you can buy them at hardware store or order the kit. If I remember correctly the kit doesn't have the 4 shorter bolts that are in the middle of the intake, so you will have to reuse your stock or buy new ones. It's been almost 10 years since I replaced mine they might have changed that and included the shorter bolts.

 

When I changed from the 7111 intake to the 2711 intake I bought all new bolts. As mentioned above, 4 of them are pretty short, and the ones from my 7111 intake would have been too long.


I just went to lowes and bought the high grade bolts and called it a day. Rather buy new for $15 than risk breaking one or having an intake leak(which might happen anyway, but that's a whole different story).

 

If you break one of those intake bolts then your torque wrench is WAY out of calibration.

The problem I have is how do I buy the bolts if I don't know what size to buy. Are they the same size for the edelbrock 2711 as the ones I'm taking out of my 2 bbl factory intake?

 

One option would be, take your new intake with you to the hardware store, and purchase stainless steel bolts and washers that fit perfectly. I would shoot for approximately 1/2" of thread extension which would allow for the gasket and flat washers. Do not use lock washers, but I would recommend stainless flat washers. Thicker is better.

 

For washers, look for thick Grade 8 washers. They will not bend like regular washers, which will protect the relatively soft aluminum intake. Regular washers will bend and potentially wallow out the tops of the bolt holes.

 

Finding stainless washers that are thick enough to not bend is not an easy task. I know its an odd combination but using a regular stainless washer with a stainless lock washer works well. It keeps everything stainless for no rust or corrosion and is strong enough that it doesn't collapse and ruin the bolt holes in the intake manifold. You should have 1/2 to 3/4" of thread sticking out the backside of the intake manifold with no gasket in place.

 

If you buy the edelbrock kit, it will come with thick washers. Only thing you will need is the 4 bolts that go in the middle of the intake, 2 on each side. Kit supplies enough bolts and washers, 4 of the bolts will be wrong length but you can use the washers.

 

I decided to order the bolt kit from summit. I'll trial fit them then take the ones that look to short to the store for longer ones. I decided to order a rebuilt quadra jet carb from rock auto.com. It was only $199. I decided on the quadra jet after reading all the debate on the co past treads. Thats what I like about this forum, I can hear all the "I like this" or " no way I like that one" and the why. It does get confusing at times but I like deciding based on information from those who have been there. So I ordered my carb and it came in today. First thing I noticed was the number was not right. Then I noticed it was a carter and not a Rochester. I ran the number via carbs unlimited. It came up as the correct carb for my 69 and as a quadra jet made by carter. Is this the same design or is the Rochester better?

 

Due to not enough capacity at the Rochester plants Carter was contracted to produce quadrajets for several years. They are exactly the same other than the Carter tag markings. Though I have often noticed that the Carter QJs were of a darker color that those from Rochester.

 

I bought the bolt kit and all the bolts were there. Easy peasy. But I bought the 3711.

 

I used my old intake bolts, cleaned bolts and holes than oiled and torqued to spec.
I did note that one extra short intake bolt is required over stock.
Glad I hoard all car parts.
I'll bet they are just fine.

 

Anyone know all of the bolts lengths for the 7111 intake? In the process of buying the ARP 12 point stainless bolts with AN washers and was curious as to the lengths needed for all 12 bolts as well as for the water neck.

 

Manny on the 7111 there are two bolts ob the pass side that need a reallly small head to clear the intake runner, I thought an Allen head would work but even that was to large for one of them

Other than those two bolts all the bolts are the same bolts as the stock intake, sorry I don't know the size
