Well I tried this with the pistons and got some great feedback. Maybe it will work with this cam.

I pulled the cam from an engine I just purchased. Its a fresh rebuild but I wanted to check it out. Anyway... there are some numbers stamped into the rear face. They are 941129 and J274. The front of the blank is painted red and has CMC and CWC cast into the blank. The rear of the cam is painted purple and D4 99-08 OS is cast in. Could be 80-66 SO but I think the previous is correct. DOes any of this help to identify the cam?

 

I got nothing in a search so you might want to put it back in and throw a degree wheel and dial indicator on it. Or take it to a shop that has a Cam Pro.
It's probably stock or close to it. Most major aftermarket cam companies mark their cams for easy indentification.

 

Found some information on a Camaro forum. Looks like the CMC may be Cam Machine Company. They manufacture for OEM's and also sell aftermarket cams, probably to rebuilders.

Going to give them a call and see if they can cross the numbers. I suspect that it is going to end up being a stock cam but worth a call.

 

They also supply most everyone with the generic grinds and sell cores to the rest.

 

So then it may not be thiers.... Oh well. I wasn't expecting much.

Any recomendations on a cam for this car. I am looking for something with a noticable idle for a street machine. RPM range should probably be around 1500 to 6000 as all of the engine components are stock quality.

The specs are:
350 with #6 heads (2.00 intake valves)
Performer RPM #7111 Intake
Holley 650
Headers with 2-1/2" dual exhaust
TH350
3.23-3.55 gears (still undecided)

 

How about the Comp 268H or the XE268H?

 

Compression ratio?
If around 9.0:-9.5:1 then an Erson TQ40 would be perfect, that's what they were designed for, stock cast iron headed American V8's. Specs are 220/228 @ .050, .504 lift, we can do it on a 108 if you want a bit more tone and low end punch.

Where are Erson cams purchased?

 

For a 9.0:1 I'd do the TQ40. You can get them right from Erson but they;'re cheaper from me, custom or off the shelf, same price, $225.00 for cam and lifters plus the ride.
