metal vs fiber gasket

I'm replacing the gasket between the oil filter adapter and the engine block on my 403. The original gasket was metal but the replacement gasket from Felpro is fiber. What is the reason for using metal there? Will the fiber gasket cause any problems long term?

Given Felpro's track record, I wouldn't worry. Going with fiber is just an update of theirs
