Mechanical advance

Do they make a different set of springs for an HEI distributor or would they even do any good?

What is it that you are trying to accomplish? Is your engine modified? There are different kits for different some HEI's also.

You'll find Moroso and Crane brands pretty common. Be prepared to do a lot of testing with different springs. Timing adjustments, etc.

Don't be surprised if an adjustable vacuum advance can help out on the road to a perfect tune. Sometimes there is a little more to it.

A bit of info I learned about the Moroso HEI kit is that it's center bar and weights give 24* of mechanical advance whereas most factory HEIs have 14* mechanical advance. This worked well for me since my original points distributor had 24* mechanical advance, so I didn't have to change the initial. All I had to do was experiment with springs to get the curve where I wanted it. I ended up using one light and one medium spring.
