Just spoke with the guys at edelborck about intake and carb combo haha

Hahahahhahahah, so I just got off the phone with the tech department at edelbrock and guess what?

First I asked what Intake they would recommend for my stock 70 olds 350 engine,he said you want to go with the 2711 intake and 600cfm carb!

So I said wel can I use the 3711 intake and my 600cfm carb? He says,"why are you particular about the 3711 intake and the 600cfm carb"? I say, well I theres a few car guys who recommended the 3711 intake and 600cfm carb non emissions. So he says" I dont care which one of our carbs you use,it will not work with the 3711 intake without adding 2 inches of spacing"! Im thinking wtf?

So based on your guys experince, is this bs or what?

I don't know about 2 in. of spacing, but you will need an adapter to use that carb on the intake. That intake uses a spread bore mounting flange and the ebrock is a square bore carb.

Yeah I know I need an adapter but don't all spreadbore intake need one with an edelbrok carb? This guy however said there was just no way of using the 3711 intake with the 600cfm carb, sounds like a bunch of bs from the tech department.

He is telling you the truth. The 3711 has the EGR port and the 2711 does not. The Edelbrock carbs are to wide to use with the EGR unless you use a spacer to get the linkage above it. That is why he suggested the 2711 manifold.

found that out the hard way. the 2711 is the same as the 3711 with no egr ports. so get the 2711 and a adapter on ride on!

unless something has changed recently, performer manifolds for GM product will accept both spread bore AND square bore carbs without any adapters, thus the 8 mounting holes.

I've got a square bore Holley sitting on a performer manifold with no adapter

What you should be using is a square bore plate that is about 1/16" thick with 2 thin gaskets to make sure it seals properly though.

Why not use the Performer RPM manifold (7111) with the 600 CFM carb? A better manifold IMO. I love mine.

HEY 71 Cutlass have you done anything else to the engine besides the carb and 71111 intake? If so what else do you have and if not did you notice any loss on the lower end vs the higher end on the engine?

Oh man, i have a 3711 intake on my 72 stock 350 now too... i also JUST ordered a 600 CFM 1405 Manual choke carb off amazon (they've got pretty good prices it seems)

After reading this thread, do you guys think i'm going to need that 0.063'' spacer for the linkage to clear the EGR that i have blocked off?

Thanks all,

Tony

with those heads your intake carb convertor and camshaft are not correct for your application unless you just take it to car shows
a performer rpm intake is mismatched to your camshaft profile
you need to find a Buick quadrajet(800 cfm) go to 3000 stall and step up
to a more aggressive cam profile like a lunati bracket master
that bad boy will pull to 5800 and snap your neck when changing gears

Not sure what car theory you're working on but you're totally wrong. The car parts were carefully thought out. If you think John Stolpa from Rocket Racing and Dick Miller are stupid, call them and tell them. Together we picked out the set up. You're clueless, not to mention a larger carb totally failed on this set up, yet you are suggesting one. Gotta love the internet. Check out this video of how my car (a 350 w/ air cond.) runs. http://www.oldsmobilecentral.com/201...unch-video.php

I have the 7111, on my 350, using a 750 cfm Q-jet. I did go with the XE268H cam because I wantged a little lope. I have basically the same build as 71 Cutlass (with minor variations like Cloyes timing set instead od edelbrock) with a 2200-2400 stall converter and I love it. Launches well and pulls hard. 71 you should know by now, everyone wants to change your ride somehow. BTW, nice ride!

your car has a very big bog to it because you're using the wrong intake

those guys recommend those w-31 stickers too?

I used a 3711 intake and the 600 Edle carb, I don't have an EGR but the provision still interfered with the carb linkage. I used a spacer of about 3/4" but I also had to cut off the lower portion of the throttle linkage and use the top holes for the return spring. I cut the linkage in such a way that it looks like it was made that way, not hacked. I was extremely pissed that no where did they state in the catalog or instructions that their own carb doesn't work on their manifold. This was some years ago. Since then they now state on their web site that the two do not work together. Otherwise the carburetor and spacer bolted on and fits fine. Other than the improvising it works well. The 2711 did not exist at that time. If I remove my manifold again I may chuck the 3711 and replace it with a 2711.

I use a performer intake with a performer 650 carb (Holley 12psi fuel pump). I used a moroso spacer/adapter to allow the linkage to clear the EGR plate, plus I shaved about an eighth of an inch off of the EGR plate itself to make room for my kickdown cable hardware. My 330 is basically stock but completely rebuilt, mild Edelbrock power package, fresh gaskets, head work and HEI ignition. It'll snap your head back hard from first to second, with a firm second to third. It will give a solid chirp grabbing second, but will not chirp third. But anyway, I like my carb/intake combo...u can clearly hear the carb sucking ALOT of air when i chuck a rev or when i get on it going down the road. U need a higher pressure fuel pump if you want to successfully run these intakes and carbs. A little more air needs a little more gas. If your trying to run a 800cfm carb, u can't use a factory fuel pump.

And Man, I wish I knew everything like some people.....above.....if we all knew everything there would be no need for these forums at all.

Hey 71Cutlass, it sounds like this guy must have been driven your car. We are a pretty nice bunch of guys and gals here but this guy would probably be better served at ROP. You know that old saying, opinions are just like elbows, everybody has them (okay that is not exactly how it goes). Your build is pretty close to what I have planned one day and I have several of the parts already.

But not the message - it is continuing on other threads. Time to think first about what and how you post...

It was the W-31 sticker comment that did it. Not only were u condescending towards his mechanical knowledge, but u also mocked his liking of the W-31 decal. Nobody learned anything from your comments, except what type of person u are.
