Headers for a 68 Cutlass S coupe

I am checking with all. I'm pretty sure I read some time back that Sanderson 0351 headers shorties. Were the absolute best natural for for a 1968 olds Cutlass S coupe. True?

Define "best". Shorty headers are the opposite of "best" if performance is your priority.

Yes, they fit, I had a set on my 70 Cutlass S. I moved the exhaust back to my 88 Cutlass. All 3 of my sets were good quality. You will need custom down pipes, they have a 3 bolt flange. They have gone up in price quite a bit since I bought mine. Thornton also makes shorty headers in stainless, about the same price as coated Sanderson headers and use manifold down pipes. The Ram Air Restorations down pipes are nice mandrel bent in 2.5" aluminumized. Pypes also makes them. The last pic of Thornton SBO manifolds looked really good, not full of flashing like some I have seen. I am tempted to get a set and open the outlets as much as possible. They are all a compromise compared to full length headers. My current ceramic coated Sanderson headers are 10+ years old and starting to leak at the tubes at the flanges. Good luck.

By Best I meant, Fit easiest to connect to existing exhaust. Sanderson Headers LS10-SEC - Sanderson Headers Blockhugger Headers or Sanderson Headers O351-P - Sanderson Headers Blockhugger Headers
i thought I read the 0351 fit best/easiest to install.

I am an obvious Newbie to the cutlass blog only recently came around to making changes to this car as I learn more about what can be done.

I also asked some ?? on the cutlass forum in regards to 4BBL carbs 600+ cfm Summit, Demon, Holly any suggestions
and an Edelbrock manifold. I had researched all this. store in favorites and lost all when computer fried. Thanks for reading

Either a late 70's 800 cfm Qjet tuned to your motor or a 750 cfm Street Demon, again tuned motor would both make great street carbs.

From one of the many identical threads the OP has posted in the last couple of days, he has a 1968 L65 350 2bbl motor with 9.00:1 CR. The cam in that motor is the mild 250/264 cam.

Which implies that custom-tuning an oversize carb likely isn't going to go well. That's not a criticism, just a statement of fact.

In the interest of offering something constructive, I'll suggest getting a stock 4bbl intake with a 7028250 carb, or possibly a 70-72 SBO intake with a 7040250 carb and electric choke, since the divorced choke tends to confuse people. Use your stock exhaust manifolds for now with the crossover cap and run true dual exhaust. Learn how to tune the car, playing with advance and if necessary jetting. Once you are comfortable working on the engine and have it properly tuned for the setup, THEN start changing one thing at a time to improve performance. Simply throwing together a bunch of mis-matched parts is a good way to spend a lot of money without measurable benefit.
