Head Gasket choice

Going to remove and have the heads done (new valves, springs, hardened seats and maybe a 3 angle valve job while I'm at it) and I want to know which HG I should use?

Don't want to use RTV!!

You can not use RTV, for head gaskets. You neeg head gaskets. The problem is you have very little choices, probably Fel Pro, is what is a valable, or maybe Cosmic?

Add Mr Gasket, Corteco and ROL to that list.

I did not mean I wanted to use RTV in place of a head gasket, I just don't like using RTV at all. I only use it when I have to.

AM I correct that if the heads have to be milled, I have to mill the intake as well?

Not unless you hack off a whole bunch. A clean-up cut or two, no problem.

Notwithstanding your aversion to RTV, it is the best way to seal the water port areas (not the fuel/air port areas) of the intake gasket, and the ends of the intake to the block. Today probably most people use RTV only for end seals. The original rubber seals were a pain especially after the heads were surfaced--they tended to slip out of place and leak.

The major sources for head gaskets were listed above; the Olds race shops often carry gaskets, such as Rocket Racing, etc. as is easily found with a search or on ROP.

Felpro would be a good choice. Never had any problems with any of their gaskets.
