Unhappy engine problems

i have a 1972 350 rocket in my cutlass s and it was rebuilt about 6 years ago i think it might be a 383 stroker i was told but not sure but the car set out in a barn for about 5 years so i got it to run and i drove it on the highway and it over heated twice because the trans was not shifting then i got it to run at a shop but it ran real rough my dad said it could be just timing so yesterday i took off the valve covers tried to take off intake but after taking the bolts out it still wont budge i was trying to see if it was a blown head gasket but i checked my oil and spark plugs and it wasnt milky and i didnt have white smoke coming out so i noticed after the valve covers were of on the left side 2 lifters were loose and on the right side two also in diff areas what does this mean is it a serious problem?

Unless someone swapped in a Chevy motor, it's not.

By the way, punctuation and capitalization are your friend. Us geezers find it a lot easier to understand what you're trying to say.

The rockers can feel loose depending on cam position!! Like Beob stated, go for the obvious first and move on from there.

A clearer description of the problem might yield a higher quality set of suggestions.

Did timing you ever check? Dwell? Points?

Loose lifters, or bridges?

Stroker I think it's not.

Interesting e-mail I received today:
Please, no one take offense, but it shows how caps alone can change the meaning of a sentence.

> In the world of hi-tech gadgetry, I've noticed that more and more people who send text messages and emails have long forgotten the "art" of capitalization. Those of you who fall into this world, please take note of the statement below. I cannot stress how important it is to get your grammar correct. Capitalization is the difference between helping your Uncle Jack off a horse and helping your uncle jack off a horse.

Please do not forget to use proper punctuation. It may save Grandpa's life some day. "Let's eat Grampa!" or "Let's eat, Grampa!" Which sounds better to you? Mmmmmmm...

I really like where this post went. I work with a bunch of youngsters, and they will send an e-mail on the company e-mail account, and they will type the e-mail like they text. Drives me bonker. BTW I would prefer to help Uncle Jack off the horse...lol!
