Would you have any suggestions of books to buy for this car? I have a Chilton repair manual but ive heard of other types. Would any do me more good? Thanks for the encouragement and helping the newbie!

The factory manuals (FSM), the Fisher body manual and the electrical troubleshooting book. All are available on ebay ... although there's likely someone here who has a spare knocking about. http://wildaboutcarsonline.com/cgi-b...plate.cgi?id=8 has an online copy, but they recently started charging a membership for access. You get a nice license plate from them for it tho.

I bought the ETM (Electrical Troubleshooting Manual) for my 85 just yesterday for $10 on ebay. I bought the Chassis Service Manual a year or so ago for $9 shipped. Those would be the only two books you're gonna need. Plenty on ebay can be found. Just type in "83 Custom Cruiser manual" or something like that and they'll pop up. You'll need both of them if you're gonna get into the nitty gritty of the car and all of it's emissions stuff.

The Chilton and Haynes I've found to be almost useless in the bit more "in depth" issues. But for general stuff, they're good reference material.

I stopped buying Haynes manuals when I came across the phrase "This requires special tools and knowledge and should be taken to a service centre". Seriously? I bought your Gawd Darn Effin book because that's exactly what I DON"T want to do.

I totally agree, i wouldn't have gone out and bought this piece of crap if i knew it would be vague assuming that id take it to a shop. Why in the name of intelligence would i buy a book so that it could tell me im not smart enough to give me the proper information???
