Exclamation EGR for a 260 V8

I suspect the EGR is bad in my car. It is a Rochester EGR. I ordered an AC/Delco EGR, part number 214-1434. I got it from Rock Auto, and it does not match up to the bolt holes on the manifold. Also one of the holes on the flange is smaller than the original bolt.

Has any one had any luck with replacing the EGR with an EGR that fits exactly like original? What manufacturer did you use?

I do have one on order from Borg Warner.

You can have EGR valves tested. You just need to make sure they open when vacuum is applied to the appropriate port. If you got the wrong EGR valve then perhaps you got an EGR valve for an Olds engine instead of your Chevy engine...

Thanks Olds64. I'm confused by your post unless it was a joke, it is an Olds engine and verified that was the EGR part number listed for the Olds 260.

The typical lifespan of the early EGR's were less than 5 years, so this is long over due for a replacement, and I am pretty sure this is the cause of my problems I am having, e.g. rough idle when engine is warm. Thanks again for suggestion.

Oh sorry. I thought you had a Chevy engine in your 78 Olds Cutlass.

I just picked up a Borg Warner EGR and this EGR has two different diameter sized holes in the base. I have not matched this up yet but I have a feeling this is may not fit. Furthermore I am supposed to install a spacer based on the GM Number on the old EGR, there is no number on my EGR that corresponds to that sheet.

Am I the only one with this issue? What have others done to replace their EGR? Is there another one for another engine I can use that matches up better?

If this does fit, what spacer will work?

This is frustrating and gets me concerned about this Olds engine and the availability of simple parts such as this. It seems I would be better off with finding Fiat parts than this.

Any help is appreciated. Here is the picture of the new EGR:

The number system is a series of copper washers. Check the bottom of your old egr.
Also, as far as I remember, the 2 bolts usually were different sizes from 77 on up.

Thanks J-Chicago. The Borg Warner fit. I got the correct numbered washer but could not figure how to hammer it in. The car accelerates better, however the idle is now rougher at idle at the traffic light for example. I am sure the lines are all connected so the only thing I am thinking is the carb was adjusted towards the bad egr and now needs to be adjusted? Before the rough idle appeared was when the car was hot, now it is rough when started.

Weird.
