Does my new engine fit my car?

I have a Cutlass 1971 with a 350 smallblock with 160 horsepower. And today i found this engine, a 350 smallblock yearmodel sometime between 1960 and 1969. My guess is that i get more power from that 60ths engine? The price is 198 dollars. My question is. Does it fit my cutlass 1971? My plan is to restore it and put it in my car.

Can't you just rebuild the one that's in there?

A 68-70 4bbl 350 had higher compression, but in reality it was less than advertised.

Would it run better than whats in there now? Maybe but you might want to just build what you want and be done with it. JMO.

I agree buiild what you already own. You have several options for compression, cam, etc. That is unless you want to drive the car while you build an engine. If thats the case then go for it

I got a great motor of ebay for a steel but I would have one built for a car that i was going to keep. Then you know what is in it and what yo have . Mine runs good and it has new pistons as I could see them and the heads were clean but other that I was going on blind faith .

If you are talking about an OLDMOBILE 350 small block (as opposed to a Chevy) then it was either a 1968 or 1969 model year. There were no 350 Olds motors built prior to the 68 model year. All small block Olds motors are externally identical, so it will bolt into your car, but as noted, unless your existing motor is fundamentally broken, put the money into what you have.

I'm wondering if the heads are any different on this earlier SBO 350? Like Pat said, you might consider this engine is if you want to continue driving your Olds while you have the engine rebuilt. FWIW, this is what my father (Oldsguy) and I did when we rebuilt our 455s.

Thanks for all the answers. Today i bought the engine. In hope to maybe use the heads to get more compression. On the engineblock there is a number. 395558. I also found a number on the heads. CFD 409 147 /146 Does the numbers tells you anything about the engine?

Here is a filmclip of the engine
