Do I need a PCV valve to fix this problem?

Ever fix one thing, only to break something else? That's what I got going on here. I just replaced my crappy Rochester 4GC on my rebuilt 1965 Olds 330. Replaced with an Edelbrock 600 CFM. Problem fixed. Nice new carburetor.

INSERT NEW PROBLEM:
Excessive blow-by coming out of the passenger side valve cover. Creating a big oily mess on my new motor/intake. My old setup just had a breather from passenger side valve cover with a hose going to the air cleaner. There was always a little oil inside the air cleaner, but not much unless most of it just got sucked back in through the carburetor. From looking around on the intrawebs I think what my setup needs is to find a pcv valve/grommet setup for the driver side valve cover that was never there. My current driver side valve cover has a rubber seal over the grommet hole. I have not done a compression test but am assuming at this point I don't need to. I did replace my air cleaner due to the change in carb throat size so mounted the breather hose to the bottom of the new air cleaner.

Pictures attached and thanks for any advice.

That's an od setup. Yes I would install a PCV. Make sure the side you place the PCV has a baffle to keep the oil out of it. On my old 330 the PCV was on the passenger side and a similar breather setup on the drivers side to the aircleaner.

Yes install a pvc into valve cover and vac line. I did the same thing, but mine was blowing out the oil fill tube

PCV in your choice of covers, from the 3/8" nipple at base of carb, front.

Your other filter thing in other cover to air cleaner as you have it.

gm pcv grommet will be found to work much better than aftermarket unit, spend the $ if you can find one

Thanks for the reply. Does it matter which valve cover has the pcv? A bit of a newbie here :-)

Grommet with baffle?

Thanks for the information. Any ideas where to find a grommet with a baffle? So far only finding Moroso part number 68773. Fits a 1.22 inch hole. I believe mine are 1 inch. Plenty of PCV grommets without baffles. I'd measure but don't want to pop out the rubber plug on the hole until I have part in hand. Thanks!

The Baffle is usually in the valve cover. Fusicks has many different grommets available to fit the different year valve covers. Good luck with your installation!

You may be able to find a "D" grommet at your local auto parts store in the help rack. If not any of the resto supply places carry them. There are 2 sizes one for a PCV and the other for a breather. The baffle as stated above is built into the valve cover It will be a metal plate installed below the grommet hole.
