Which distributor?

Hello all, I'm looking to buy a Pertronix setup for my car and wondered if you can help me out. I own a numbers-matching 70 Cutlass S. does anyone know which distributor this engine will be fitted with or, if possible, which Pertronix kit I'll need to order?

Thanks,

Anth.

There are 3 levels, the Original, II, and III. Any one of them will work well it depends on what options you want included.

Cutlassefi may have some insight for you. He had my engine dynoed with an igniter 2 a few months back.

I put the Pertronix 3 in mine, built in rev limiter that is adjustable, very happy with it.

Yes I do thanks.
I had it on the dyno and wasn't impressed. The timing marks were all over the place. The distributor had minimal clearance and the cam had .010-.012 end play. That tells me it was the module in the distributor. Imo I wouldn't use another one.

For what it's worth, I went with a Mallory on my 67. Internal module like Pertonix, but better quality in my opinion.

In the end I went original Ignitor, it did ok in my 440 so I'm hoping it'll do the same in th Cutlass. I drive like an old woman so there's not much need for a rev limiter

I think you will be fine. There seems to be a lot of debate as to the quality of Pertronix. I have had one in my boat for probably 15 years and it is still working. Mallory has been around forever and I would not hesitate to use one of their units either. I suspect they are both made in China.

It's like being a kid in the candy store, so many to chose from. Most choices made are not the wrong one.
