Cylinder head bolt question

Hey guys,
Is it OK to use the same bolts after head repairs? If not, is it worth it to go to studs instead of bolts? This is for a 350 with 7 heads that will be decked to get a CR of around 9.5.

Thanks,

-Mike

My engine has the factory head bolts and it has been apart 3 or 4 times. If you are unsure a new set of bolts isn't that expensive for the peace of mind.

If they come up to spec (80-85 ft lb) quickly, keep using them. I have used them over and over--they are not the torque to yield kind that turn to junk quickly.

The only time I've used studs is for assembly alignment. I always reuse the head bolts unless there is an obvious problem. Follow tightening torques and sequences.

These are not torque-to-yield bolts. They are just bolts.

You can use them 100 times.

Just oil them like it says.

I oil them but then let them drain onto a cloth so oil won't ooze onto the deck when you install them.

If you want to use ARP head bolts you could, as the others have said there is no reason to replace them. Olds engines aren't like 6.0L Fords and 4.6L Northstar engines, they don't need studs unless you are making some serious horsepower.

Thank you all for the quick replies. Looks like I will be saving myself $130 and reusing the ones I have.
