what is the build dated for your car? Or engine?
The carburetor typically needs to be a build date up to 3 months prior to the car build. It can be up to 6 months earlier without point deductions.
The 7042250 I have on hand is a 3151 build date meaning it was produced on the 315th day of 1971. November 11th, 1971. All of the 72 Olds will have the 4 digit date code.

I merged your two identical threads. It is neither necessary nor in your best interest to post the same question in multiple sub-forums. You'll get a better answer more quickly if all responses to your question are in the same thread. This allows incorrect info to be caught and corrected.
Just so we're clear, I suspect the number you are asking about is NOT a "casting" number, but in fact the stamped number on the side of the carb. If so, the correct carb for your car would be stamped carb number 7042250. FYI, this info is in your chassis service manual.
If you really are looking for the casting numbers on the various carb parts, the air horn is 7045662, choke housing is 7036963, float bowl is 7041991, and throttle body is 7041993. This carb uses a 0.069 primary jet, 7034850 primary metering rods (0.050), and 7045778 secondary metering rods (CG).

Joe thank you for the merging of the two posts ! And also for the plethora of casting number info ! I actually spoke to Mark at Quadra Power LLC and ordered the correct Carb # 7042250 casting carb W/ #3151 pull date, which is perfect or at least closest I'll get. The Cutlass was assembled in Lansing Aug 1971 but was sold as 72 model with the 72 changes, Headlight bezels and Tail lenses so the numbers you have provided were spot on and very helpful ! Mine was #4587 off the assembly line for 72 model year. Now if I could find out how many Cutlass Supreme convertibles were produced for that year in total.
No, it was "sold as a 1972 model" because it IS a 1972 model. There is no fuzz on this - the VIN will verify the model year. Production of 1972 model year cars ran late Aug 1971 to July 1972. This is normal.
The search function brought up this from 2010:
https://classicoldsmobile.com/forums...n-numbers.html
11,571
The numbers were actually pretty similar for those years.
For '70, '71, and '72, the convertible was available only in the Cutlass Supreme line, and the production numbers were 11,354, 10,255, and 11,571, respectively.
