choke range of motion

Hey guys,
Trying too set the choke on my Q-jet (it's electric if that matters) but I'm wondering; is it supposed to close ALL the way when cold and the pedal is pushed to the floor before starting, and open ALL the way when completely warmed up?
I noticed it wasn't opening all the way when warm, only a little more than half, so I set it to open all the way and now it won't close all the way when cold. I'm guessing I have to set the coil mechanism inside the housing but wanted to hear from you fellas first.
On a side note: have you noticed I've barely been on here since school started?

Yes, that is how it works. Double check you have 12+ volts to the choke. Also check the choke coil contracts with voltage applied, they can burn out.

Note that there are also specific adjustments for the choke rod and the choke unloader adjustment (the latter opens the fully closed choke by a certain amount at W.O.T. to clear a flood). Both are specified in the carb rebuild specs for your particular carb. These need to be set correctly before adjusting the choke coil.

Don't believe that choke valve closes all of the way. There is supposed to be a small gap (3/16" ?) when cold, but fully open when at operating temp. Varies by year and type of choke.

Thanks spate, I haven't had a chance to mess with it yet.
