Take note that they say there is a 4sp in that car. The shifter would suggest that, but the third pedal is conspicuously missing.

Hurst used to sell a cheapie universal automatic shifter that looked like a four speed. We used to sell a lot for pick ups. Just a shifter & boot. No display what gear you were in.

Just read these comments. These guys are retarded

$13,000 is a pretty high sum of money for a restoration of a H/O. must have been very rough, or a clone. hope the work you did was better than your spelling

I wonder if Motion did any Toronados?
I know they did one yellow 1970 Buick GSX(aftermarket wheels, 3-barrel Holley, ladder bars, etc).
At the 2010 Olds Nationals, I picked up a model a black 1968 Motion 442.

I have a magazine featuring that Motion H/O-------December 1973 Popular Hot Rodding. Now here's the BIG news---I know where the car is......... A guy I know owns it and it is still in the same condition as those articles. Last time I spoke to him (December 2010) the car wasn't for sale. Until next time..... Dave.

Motion actually had a booklet available on how to tune the "W" cars. Reprints are around now. They built at least one '68 also. I have an original "MOTION" yellow sticker on my desk at home along with some other memorabilia. Back then, "Motion" was just a little garage on Long Island near Baldwin Chevrolet. The legend is bigger than the real estate.

This is a drag car, not a resto. The paint was first done in the 1960s to make the car stand out. Can't speak to the rationale for the crappy shifter, however. The stock dual gate would have been a much better choice.

Funny, I don't know which reply is worse, the claim of just $13,000 for a complete resto or the following reply that thinks $13,000 is a high sum of money for the restoration of a H/O

The article also mentions the following:

the "Commotion by Motion" H/O received the non-A/C tuned W-46 455 "Rocket V8." W-46s came with chrome steel valve covers and an aluminum dual-plane intake manifold (to optimize the 455's 500 ft. lbs. of torque),

I'm pretty sure W-45's were non A/C and W-46's were A/C.... also, no 'aluminum dual-plane intake manifold...

The Sebring Yellow/red W-30 that was in Cars Illustrated also was later massaged by Motion Performance.

Weren't all of the 69 H/O cars W-46's?
It is my understanding that the 68 cars were W-45 (no AC) and W-46 (AC), but that in 69 they called them all the same.

I have seen the 69 Commotion by Motion in person. Spring 2007 or 2008. It was in a big car barn with about 40 or so other muscle Olds. And a bunch of parts. I tripped over 2 1970 W-27 rears while I was looking around.

Yep, I think you are right and I was off, the 68's had the differentiation and the 69's were then all W-46's

You might be thinking of '68 Hurst/Olds, car #1. That H/O had a four speed manual.

Bob Anderson from Tampa had that Commotion 69 H/O last time I saw it and it had an automatic in it. It was god awful loud and very healthy sounding.

Third vote on W46 as the H/O option for 69, any flavor.

There was actually a PRE-68 Hurst/Olds with a 4-speed in it. However, as it was slated to be hauled over to the Olds brass for a pre-production meeting, the truck hauling it wrecked and the car got crunched in the ditch. This is according to folks that were there at Demmer at the time.

At the Oldsmibile 100th anniv in Lansing, MI back in 1997 the 4 speed 1968 H/O was there, picture below. It was owned by Demmer's son at the time I believe. Not sure if it's the same car you were referring to.

Different car than Demmer's son's as this was a pre-production model that got smushed. Production #1 was Demmer's son's car as I understand it.

The '68 H/O w/4-speed displayed at the OLDS 100th as being owned by "Demmer's son" was pre-H/O production & originally a G-G "willow gold" car. Is this the wrecked car restored?

I did not get the lowdown on the wrecked car's status. I only asked if there was really only one 68 4-speed and I was told no. The guy I talked to at Demmer said that the wrecked car was a 4-speed car, and that there was a 4-speed car built for Demmer's son. I only surmised that the two were different cars, but I guess it could be possible it was the same car. For all we know there could have been several pre-production cars with 4-speeds. I have no proof to support or dispute this. I'm only going off of what I was told by the guy I talked to at Demmer. I have no reason to think the guy was pulling my leg as I was really after 69 information. As the story goes, a bumblebee got into the truck cab of the hauler and the driver freaked and the truck ended up running off the road in a ditch.

With that said, one can be fair to speculate that the wrecked H/O going to a pre-production meeting pretty much had to be either a typical Cutlass or regular production 442 that didn't have the right paint code info, etc., since it wasn't a planned, production H/O at the time as all the pre-pro 68s had to be. In other words, it was supposedly a Hurst prototype looking for sign-off for production, so it certainly COULD have had a G-G paint code if that turned out to be the one in the pics.

I like the engine limiter when I see crap like that I wonder if they knew what they were doing. The 69 H/O was a great looking car, the motion
paint scheme does nothing for the car and is even bad for 60's era paint. The rear wheel wells are just plain bad.

"In 1968, color options were nonexistent, regulating all H/Os to a striking Peruvian Silver and Black paint scheme, while body styles were available in either the “Club Coupe” (post) or “Sport Coupe” (hardtop) models. "

Bullshed. Club and Sport are terms for the post car. HOLIDAY is the no-B-post body.

Bob still has the one and only 69 Commotion. Its right up the street from me. P.S. For those that care there is a brand new 1/18 scale of this car being made and it should be out in about a week.
