Smile Cfm?

What is the difference between 700cfm and 600cfm? I am considering a new carb for 1972 Cutlass 350 with an electric choke. What will be the difference in results between the two?

Thanks!

I've always heard that the 700 is too big for a stock 72 350. I had a 600 DP Holley in a 72 S that I had back in the late 80's and it ran great.

Quick rule of thumb. Cubic inches x 2=700 x .80 (80% efficiency) = 560. Go with the 600cfm.

You guys kill me. The STOCK 4 bbl with manifolds was a 750. Also, those calculators are not accurrate in the real world. The 600 will work fine, but a properly tuned 750 is not too big, IMO.

Stock 750 carbs were vacuum actuated and only put out what the motor demanded. If a 72 350 motor only demanded 560 CFMs from the carb, that's all it got. Stock Q-Jets didn't just deliver 750 CFMs b/c they were rated at 750. So the "stock" 750 argument is mute, not to mention the fact his motor is a 180 HP stock motor. No way he needs 750 CFM for that.
