Carburetor Questions

I just bought a '72 Cutlass S with a 2bbl 350.

The top of the 2bbl carb is broken (not exactly sure what or how) in a way that the air breather can not be bolted to the carb.

My first thought is to just put a performer intake and a quadrajet (tuned for a SBO) onto the 350, since I already have both parts. Will the 2bbl throttle linkage fit the quadrajet? Will the 2bbl fuel pump be enough for the quadrajet? Will the fuel line fit, or can it be bent to fit? Are there any other things that might need to be adjusted or changed to put the intake and quadrajet onto the 350?

Any advice for someone who has never done this kind of work? I know the distributor should come out, to make installing the intake easier, but I have never done that either, so any advice on that would be appreciated as well.

the 2-bbl. could be fixed by putting a different air horn on it.

you will need the 4-bbl. throttle cable and bracket, the 2-bbl. one will not work.

the 2-bbl. fuel pump will work fine, worked great on my '69 350 when i did it.

you will have to bend a new hard line, a pre-made one might have an issue with the aftermarket intake.

you will need to convert to an electric choke, in another thread here, it stated the edelbrock intakes don't support a hot air choke system.

you'll need a 4-bbl. air cleaner and intake air pre-heater setup(if you wish to run that system).

i'm assuming you don't want to open-up the motor to put on big valve heads and a 4-bbl. cam(higher compression pistons too).

i think i got it all, if not, somebody will chime-in. lol

What kind of transmission do you have? You will have to ensure that the transmission kickdown fits properly on the new carburetor. I think TH350s use a kickdown cable.

Your kickdown cable should be connected to your pedal,on a 72,so that shouldn't matter.Your existing throttle cable might work,depending on what carn you put on,& the brackets used to hold it.I have the same cable on my 72,& I have gone to a Q-jet,then a holley,& now an EFI throttle body,all with the same cable.
