1405 edelbrock on factory intake. Secondaries won't open up evan by hand. When I take the hard plastic insert out of the spacer it opens up but runs horrible

 

Is this a new or used carb? Is the choke still engaged?

 

Carb was on the car when I got it... Looks like the choke cable runs under to the gas pedal?

 

Well if your choke cable runs to the gas pedal you sir certainly do have a problem! The throttle cable should be hooked to the gas pedal. The choke cable should be mounted to the dash. You can add an electronic choke to this carb. See the web site for that info. The 1405 manual choke square flange carb is a friendly carb to work on. Something on the carb linkage is locking out the secondaries or their is a problem. Is the throttle cable long enough to fully actuate the carb from idle to WOT? Is it the AVS valve hanging up or the throttle plate it self?? If the later remove the carb and see if you can move the throttle plate to WOT. could be the wrong application and its contacting the gasket of the intake? Report back.
