A/C delete on my 307
I wanna free up some space under the hood the air conditioning isnt a must for me as I like running windows down at about 60 MPH. So whats the pros and cons of doing this? And whats the proper way of doing so? I do have the haynes repair manual if any reference to that can be made. Thanks Dan.

Not sure the difference in HP will be noticeable on a 307. Personally, on a stiock 307, the hassle and expense isn't worth the trouble, IMO. Delete plates are around $75, IIRC

Pros - Easier to work on engine somewhat. Less weight.
Cons - It looks stupid as $hit because you still have the whole AC module under the hood and the AC controls inside the car.
IMO, unless you swap to a complete factory non-AC setup, it's a hackjob and looks horrible.

Pros: Appeals to some people's sense of being "cool" because it's "different."
It screams, "I did a big thing to my car."
Cons: As DoubleV said, "it's a hackjob and looks horrible."
It screams, "I did a big thing to my car!"
Isn't it less work to just slide the little lever to "Off"?

The A/C compressor uses a clutch. With the A/C off, the HP loss on the engine isn't measurable. You will save about 50 lbs (out of what, 3500?). It does make the engine easier to work on.
Have you already deleted the A.I.R. system (or are you planning to)? If not, the A/C compressor serves as the adjustment for that belt, so you'll need an idler pulley instead.

I haven't touched anything its all original nothing is off didn't want to do it for any other reason but to free up some space if it doesn't make that much of a difference I'll leave it be. I want the car as original as can be I guess I'm just jealous of all the guys who have nothing but a motor under the hood. As you all know the vacuum hoses ruin it for me already.

I have most of my AIR system if you're interested. Don't have the steel lines, but those are available aftermarket. Parts came off of my 85 442 at about 30k.

I should have been more specific, I want the A/C compressor and condenser. The 83 Hurst was my first car and feeling like a 17 year old bad *** I yanked all the AIR and emissions equipment off the car (now ten years later I realize that was a dumb move). Be that as it may I need to figure out how to get this A/C working.

The thinking was that the bearings in the compressor would continue to take a beating for no reason. In the future I can loop back and fix the A/C (enough project this year).
Do I also need to do something with an idler pulley?
