'built 350 hp ?

Just rebuilt my 72 350. Edelbrock ported heads all matched to intake , 10.8 compression with .56 lift cam . A lot of head work. Any idea on hp numbers?

What exactly was done to the heads? What cam ( you need to provide more info than just lift )? What intake? Headers? Exhaust? Is that CR measured or approximated?

I'll get the build sheet. Has edelbrock intake , headers with magna flow mufflers and yes the compression measures 10.68 . The block was decked and heads were milled and bowls were blended and opened ports up and intake also.

Which one is it? Also, there is now way to tell without cam specs...

The more information you give the better you can estimate the power...but even that isn't absolute. The only way to really tell is to dyno it.

Should be 4 and change, 420 there about, IMO. It would be more with a bigger cam.

Just a guess, mostly because of the heads. Edelbrock made 397 with SBO heads.

I saw that years ago in theor brochure so I asked them about it. They told me it had extensive bowl work and was really closer to 10.0:1 than the 9.5:1 they advertised. I think that hp figure was a little happy.

Mine makes about 360-375 with 9.7:1, a better intake, more cfm, with a similar sized roller than their flat tappet.

Depending on the cam, probably 450 max on this build. I did a roller (226/234 on a 112) for a guy in Va. with an Edelbrock headed 350. He dynoed it and it made about 350hp with 9.0:1, an RPM and a 700 Holley.
But it started making over 400lbft of torque at 3000.

Yeah, I am not a "Horsepower" guy. What really matters is that the car is fun to drive.

I think it is difficult to estimate horse power for this engine.

Mark, did you dyno your 350 engine?

Captjim, I agree with you the car needs to be entertaining.

I chassis dynoed it years ago, made just below 300. I use the 18% rule of drivetrain loss, 300/.82=365. And by the fuel table on the EFI it's making about the same figure.

Mark, thats great! I have thread for "small blocks idling". I have my engine idling there after the dyno. Add you your engine there and your builds!

I was gonna estimate 350 based on the rule of thumb that 1hp/cid is attainable with moderate mods like that.

But, I like "420" also.

So many variables, unlimited guesses!
State of tune can change it 50 hp.

Yeah, this thread is retarded. The OP hasn't even come back. And he gave so little information there's no chance of making an educated estimate. I'll throw one out there...he's making 550 HP, there, done.

Go to the track and make some runs and then post what it ran along with the weight of the car plus driver and we will be able to tell you how much power it's making.
