Anyone run a Comp Cam roller like the XR262HR (42-413-9)?
Just wondering if anyone has run a Comp Cam roller like the XR262HR (42-413-9) or similar and opinions. I will be running a basically stock 350 engine/exhaust w/duals, with 3.42 gears and aiming for ~9:5.1 CR.
Footnote #5 @ http://www.compcams.com/Company/CC/c...csid=1182&sb=2 of this cam says the valve springs 'require machining on cylinder heads'. What does that mean exactly? I am considering a roller cam like this, the Harland Sharp roller rockers (pedestal mount most likely to avoid head machining and less height clearance issues), but don't understand what the footnote #5 is talking about.

Some Oldsmobile heads have shallow spring pockets, and some have deeper spring pockets. You won't know if or how much to machine until you have the valves mocked in the head, and the installed height of the spring is determined.

Earlier #5 heads will usually set up around 1.700" after the valve job, hence the disclaimer.
Your Number 7a heads should be near 1.800", once the valve rotators get replaced with real retainers. There is more room for springs with these heads, and that is what they are gearing toward.
Have your machinist measure first.
