#8 heads......doorstops?

Does anyone have anything good to say about #8 heads?
Not enough Olds guys around to have a need for them?
Or perhaps one day when all of the other numbered heads have all been blown up, these may get a second look?

Uh... They're better than 7As (as seen on the 307, not the ones from 1971).

they're gold helll i run J heads on my stuff. i don't think it has a major effect until you either start pushing more than 9:1 compression or try to spin over 5,000rpm. definitely get in there and pocket port.

Well, they are better than 4A heads too, but 3A heads are better than the 8's

Only one of the sets are gold, and I found them in the mad Bomber's garage.

I have 3 pairs of these things now, and I'm thinking of welding a sculpture out of them and selling for millions of dollars.

I took apart that motor today by the way, It went smooth as silk. The front 2 bearings had a lot of scratches, but the others were really nice. Thanks, and welcome to the site.

I don't think you can weld cast iron

In 1969 we put a man on the moon.
Surely we can weld cast iron.

Funny story.....
I responded to a local ad on Craigslist about #5 Olds heads.
Asking price........
$650!!!!
When I asked why,.... An "M'' bomb was dropped.
I surmise that the bronze bushings were replaced with Hollywood movie stars' wedding rings or something to that effect.

I have heard many good things about them. They are the "cheap" street head. As was said, unless you're running 5000+ rpm all day long, or trying to make 1000 hp, with the right pistons to set up your cr, a good port, and maybe some bigger valves, you have a nice head able to support 400 hp.

Of course cast iron can be welded. Also, speaking of putting a man on the moon, last night I was at a dinner where Neil Armstrong was the featured speaker. Very cool.

My brother and I had a 68 4-speed car running 14.50's with stock valved #8's, a small Erson cam, and 3.42 gears (it had TRW flattop 2320's though). You need a flattop, at least, to raise the compression to a decent level, but this set worked great on the street. Ports were just like #7 heads.

Keep the good comments coming.
We need to convince at least 2 people to use some of these parts that I have collecting dust around the garage.

"Wait, but there's more...." if J is too far away I've also got two 350's with #8 heads in Medford Oregon. One assembled and one in pieces. Eventually they'll go to the big melting pot in the sky (McMinnville Oregon) you drive in and I'll load them up John
