70 cs shift linkage hits headers before reaching low

Shift linkage hits headers before reaching "L" low. i just had my headers replaced, both were/are Hedman. before p/n was 58060, for 73-77, and had no issue with linkage hitting headers. Now I installed the "so called" correct p/n 58196 headers for my 70 cutlass supreme, and the linkage hits the headers before reaching low. this is a 3 speed column shift(auto). could/should the linkage/headers be physically modified, or as someone else on the site suggested, should it be converted to a cable shift? THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR ANY HELP.

Do you have a column shift auto car? If so I will get a pic of what I did to mine tomorrow.
