69 quadrajet question
ok...so i needed my carb rebuilt & heli-coiled. I was talking to a guy i work with & he says he knows these people who rebuild carbs for a living & he would "hook me up" He says it will only take a week & all it will cost is parts. i say awesome!!
So a week later i see my co-worker & he says he has some bad new about my Quadrajet. He proceeds to say that his guys wouldnt rebuild it. The rebuild wouldnt be a problem, the heli-coil of the fuel inlet wouldnt be a problem. I was told my quad was junk & i should get a Edelbrok for my cutlass & through the quad over a bridge. I was told the my quadrajet suffers from a "very commen problem" which is the bottom base plate that mounts to the intake was junk. From what i was told the throttle linkage shaft has play in it. I checked it, it moves a little.... i guess....
My question is
is this a commen problem or did these guys just not to want to mess with my carb.
Ive never really heard of this problem. the carb ran fine. the only reason i quit running it was cause of the fuel inlet leak. i did the jb weld trick on it & it stoped the leak but after a year of sitting in a box the floats were sticking bad so it needs rebuilt. i thought if it needs rebuilt im gonna fix the leak the right way.
any input would be great
Thanks

This is a good indication that they are not competent.

Worn throttle shaft bushings in Q-jets (and ALL other types of carbs) is common. There are bushing and reamer kits to repair this. Find a competent carb rebuilder if you do not want to do it yourself.
