'68 350 Power Steering Bracket Mystery

I am very close to getting my '68 Cutlass on the road. However, I misplaced my power steering and alternator brackets somewhere in the 15 years since I took the motor apart.

Anyhow, I found some pieces, and they fit the power steering pump. The problem is that the unit won't fit on the motor after assembled. I looked at all of the pictures and diagrams posted in the forums regarding power steering pumps. I am starting to think that what I have doesn't belong to the 350.

I would appreciate some expert advice greatly. I posted some pictures of all the pieces, the PS pump, and what it looks like when assembled.

Are these the pieces for a '68 Cutlass 350 PS pump?

If so, how do they go together, and how does it bolt to the motor?

If not, do they belong to the alternator?

Thanks! I have been taking plenty of pictures of my project, and will post when complete.

Wrong brand brackets.

Look for the thread on brackets here
I even put a nice annotated AM [assembly manual] illustration on there.

The LH bracket in your first photo is the one that goes from the PS pump front bracket to the first bolt on the exhaust manifold (lower hole for SBO, upper hole for BBO).

I have no idea what the other two brackets fit, but they are not Oldsmobile. Keep in mind that just about every single GM built from the early 1960s through the 1990s used that same Saginaw pump, so the brackets could be from anything. You need the large front bracket that bolts to the studs on the front cover of the motor and the lower rear bracket that bolts to the side of the block in front of the motor mount. Both of those will be stamped steel, not cast, Also, be sure you have the two spacers, one for the lower bolt on the front cover and one for the bolt on the side of the block.

And while searching this site, you should have come across this thread, which pretty clearly shows how the brackets go together. The BBO and SBO use the same brackets in 1968, the only difference is which bolt hole to use on the exhaust manifold bolt.

Thanks for the info. I didn't think that those two belonged to my PS pump. I have one from an early 80's 307, but it was on a full size car, and won't clear the steering box.

I think that those two oddball brackets were part of the bastardized alternator / aftermarket AC brackets.

I found some correct brackets. Thanks for the help!
