64 330 engine oiling question

I have a 64 330 with the shaft rockers. I have a noisy lifter so I took the valve covers off and ran the engine to see if maybe my cam had a flat lobe but all rockers were moving the same distances, but no oil was splattering out. Shouldn't I have had oil running all over my heads? Also does anyone know of a good additive to help loosing and quiet noisy lifters? Thanks

Sorry no one has answered you post, you should have oil coming out of the hole in the rocker above the pushrod. I've used rizlone to free up stickey lifters. However you have non adjustable rockers on that shaft, so perhaps you have a worn rocker, pushrod, and/or a concave lifter.

Thanks oldcutlass, I saw no oil at all on either side pumping out. I am currently looking up a rebuild kit for my engine so I know I have a good engine afterwards.

What is your oil pressure number?
I would pull the rocker shaft assy, take them apart and clean. Clean the push rods.
When all back together, run some ATF in the engine oil, for a 1000 miles, drain and replace with engine oil. If you still have the lifter noise, you need to replace the lifters.

Well you can take a run at the auto parts store and pick up an inexpensive one. They are easy to install, and it would give you an idea of whats going on. Let us know, then we can be more help!

Thumbs up

WEll i found my noise. It is just a worn rocker arm and my oil pressure is 45-50 psi. And yes it does have oil shooting out of the rockes holes after all. So now I gotta find a couple of rocker arms for this engine . I figure i will look for a couple of extra ones to have on hand. Any ideas who may sell them separately? Thanks guys !!
