62 F85 stopped running won't start

My 62 F85 stopped running while I was driving and I had to have it towed home. When I turn the key it will run in the start position. When I release the key it stops.

I have checked that I am getting spark and gas. I am thinking it is the ignition. Can anyone please verify this for me or should I be looking for a different soloution?

Thank you

You say "checked for spark and gas". I assume you have both while cranking as it starts in the start position. Remove small wire from coil to distributor and check for volts at other small wire on coil with key in run position. Should be @7.5 or more.
Do other electrical things work with key in run? (turn signals, blower)

Sounds to me like a bad connection at the coil+ with the key on.

Actually, it's a bad resistor wire. Note that the "+" side of the coil has two wires. One provides full battery voltage to the coil in the START position and the other is a resistor wire that knocks that down to about 9 volts in the RUN position. This is the one that's bad. Replace it or find the break.

Thank you, that resistor wire was the issue. All fixed now.
