57-58 to 59-60 Fuel Pump interchangeability?

Hi all,

The fuel pump on my 1957 super 88 let go recently. It appears to be one from a 1959 or later car with the small diameter (~1/8") vacuum port and a glass bowl. The vacuum wipers have always been a bit slow, even after a rebuilding and cleaning of the wiper transmission, but I assumed it was due to the pump being tired. Would the correct 1957 pump make a difference in the wiper performance? I may go back to the correct pump anyways for originality's sake, but It would be nice to know if I can expect the issue to be fixed.

Thanks

The 59's were the first year of electric wipers .
After that the vacuum pump only supplied vacuum to the HVAC system .
Probably why the smaller outlet .
Yes , you should install the correct 1957 pump .

Actually, even, 1955 - 1957 is the same Fuel Pump, and while 1958 is a one - year ONLY, officially; those two are actually interchangeable..... however, they DO NOT exist any longer by ANY company brand new ----
I can supply you a Fuel Pump Rebuilding Kit ((in the ethanol gas compatible material -- which is CRITICAL now with this ethanol garbage gas we are forced to buy)), but you need your original "CORE"...

1959 - 1960 are V E R Y different fuel pumps ---NOT interchangeable.....

Any questions, call me --- Craig 516 - 485 - 1935..... New York

59 - 60 engines are built on the 394 size blocks where as the 57-58 are on the smaller blocks. Though almost the same the deck height is different as is the cam and crank. Probably why the difference in pumps.... Tedd
