Im looking at a motor with #5 heads on it. Not much experience with small blocks but how do I tell if these heads are w31?

They are the same on the outside, you need to measure the valves.

Bottom line is that if you have to ask if the motor is a W-31, it almost certainy is not. The asking price would be the giveaway.
