45 degree cam in 350 ?

Would this work and just how bad would it run ? I just picked up a Cutlass. It`s set for a few years. I`m working on getting it started. I have a bunch of reciepts from when the 350 was rebuilt. What bothers me is the cam card states it`s for a 45 degree 330-425. The motor was done back in 84 so it`s definately been running. I`m just wondering what effects running a 45 degree in a 39 degree block will have on the way it would run and perform ?

On another note. It`s a Crower M-280-H Monarch. Part # 56150. I had one of these before in a 350 and it screamed. I still have the cam card from that. Same cam, grind number etc. But the specs are different on both.

Well, the 45 deg bank angle means that the lobe centerlines from bank to bank are 90 deg apart. On a 39 deg cam, the lobe centerlines are 78 deg apart. If the cam was installed without indexing, then the LH bank is probably 6 deg retarded and the RH bank is probably 6 deg advanced. The options range from there - it the cam was degreed on the No. 1 cylinder, then that bank is probably right on and the other bank is 12 deg advanced.

You say the engine has been run - but for how long? I would imagine that it runs like crap. Possibly the P.O. started it, couldn't get it to run right, and parked it.

I have no idea of how many miles are on it all I know was it was redone back in 84. I have no idea of how long it`s been actully setting. I got it started today. It runs like crap. I have to get the old Holley off there and get a good carb on to tell how well it`ll run. I have other cams to put in it if I need to. I was just wondering if anyone had any experiance with this type of foul up.
