Hi
I am in the process of replacing the rochester 2 barrel carb on my 371. The rebuilt carb is identical EXCEPT the throttle linkage plate. Since the engine is not in the original car the carb linkage plate was altered. A tab was welded to the plate for a lower linkage. I am guessing for the trans kickdown. Anyway how do i remove the plate from the rebuilt carb? The one in it has a phillips head screw that threads into the throttle shaft that retains the plate. the rebuild has a std setup, not sure how to describe it, rounded on the ends with a flat surface top and bottom.?. Not sure if this is a screw? Or how it holds the plate to the throttle shaft?. Any help is very much appreciated.
first photo shows current modified carb. Note the phillips head.. that threads into the throttle rod retaining the linkage “plate” on the current engine. (Hooks to the gas pedal and the lower to trans kick down. The second photo shows the std carb. (Pedal connect the same but no kick down connection) Note the odd shaped “retainer” that holds the linkage” plate” to the throttle shaft. Sorry for the wording not sure how to describe it.. i need to swap the linkage “plates” to connect the std carb to the engine

The end of the throttle shaft (and most other carbs) is "peened over" to keep the plate from permanently coming off. The carb with the phillips screw is used because someone removed the peening. The flat areas on the throttle shaft (top and bottom) are to keep the plate from moving out of position.
I think you have two choices:
1. Swap the bottom sections of the carb.
2. Grind the peening off to remove the plate, drilling and tapping the throttle shaft.
3. Cut the fabricated plate off and hope you can get it welded in the proper location and position.
......Just my two cents worth.
