Is this 307 a "Y" or a "9"
Is this 307 a "Y" or a "9"
Like the title states. I may have a 9 motor in an 85 Delta here. Not that it's a bad thing, but how do you find out?
I know the block ID is going to be the same, so I'm going to try looking at the VIN plate on the side of the block. What would I be looking for on there?

Should be simple, if the engine is an original '85 and has not been modified. In 1985 the 9-code engines still had 5a heads while the Y-code engines moved on to the 7a heads. there are other differences, but that's the easiest to see.
If it's not the original engine, the VIN derivative won't tell you anything as it does not contain the engine code.
It's not the orginal motor, I was told it was replaced. The AIR tubes are NOT rusty and crappy looking which I was surpirsed to see.
The battery ground is right above the head ID. I can see the "A" but not the number
