3/4 race cam

I have finally found one of the highly touted 3/4 race cams! I always thought it was just a "bench racing" term used by unknowlegable teenagers. Take a look!!

Back a heck of a long time ago, a buddy and I were at the local Dodge dealership checking out the cars (we rode our bikes there), and there was a '69 Super Bee, 383 4spd, 3.91:1 geared sitting on the lot, and on the window sticker it listed a "3/4 race cam", we thought what the heck is a 3/4 race cam, I mean no specs or anything, so I would guess that the info for it would be in the sales ordering guide. This car was ordered locally and the person who ordered it changed his mind after it came in. My buddies older cousin ended up buying it. I'm not a Mopar fan, but that was a damn fast car, he claims to have beaten 440's and a couple of Hemi's with it. Later when I had my '70 SX, I thrashed a '70 383 Road Runner, but I would not have gone up against that Super Bee, if he still had it at the time.

I wonder if its the same as being "three sheets in the wind" ?
Because if it is then its a pretty hefty cam!!!!

If you do a search for Ed Winfield you can find that the terms full race and 3/4 race go back to the early days. The cam in this ebay listing capitalizes on that terminology with a Cam Dynamics grind from the era when Crane owned CD, long after the ground-breaking technical period with CD in the 1970s when Mark Heffington and John McWhirter a (66 W30 owner), along with Tom Woitesek, owned CD.

Early 1960's J C Whitney's use to advertise cams 3/4 & full race but who back then could afford paying for it upfront. This was before credit cards for average people. I remember making payments at a local speed shop for a camshaft. Things have changed a bit. Ken

That's a real piece there...
I was holding out for a "13/16 race" cam, or with thinner head gaskets for more compression, maybe the "105/128 race" cam...

I can remember back in my early days in the 60's, the only terms you heard were 3/4 race and full race. Nobody talked about lift and duration. I think these terms went back to the flathead days. I still have a flathead cm with the gears and adjustable lifters. It has no brand stamped on it but I think it is a full race.
