Started this rebuild over a year ago, and I'll post my progress on here, if there is any interest?

Alright then, here we go...

Of course the engine was stuck, and if you've worked on these engines before, you know that you can't get the transmission unbolted, if you can't turn the crank.
So the first objective was to get it unstuck.

Let the party begin:

Heads are off and I'm already fearing the worst.

That's right, non detergent oil, and very few oil changes is what turns into this:

Can you say sludge?

Pretty normal looking sludge back in the 50's-60's... the early engines are great platforms... you keeping the Hydro?

Well, this engine came with the early hydro, but the car has a Jetaway, so I adapted the crank to use the Jetaway.

So then I started treating the cylinders to get it unstuck:

Externals came off real easy. Didn't break a single bolt.

When I drained the oil, it seemed like there was more water then oil in there.

The distributer was kind of a pain to get out, since the cam didn't turn, and all the sludge didn't help...

I build me a tool with 4 foot extension, to break it loose, and I could finally take the hydramatic off.

Then I could put it on the engine stand and work the crank out.

That was one big event. I thought it was never going to happen...

Don't worry, it's too late for that

In the meantime, I started tearing the heads apart.

Just the right amount of brute force, and they would cooperate...

So then I was able to drop everything off at the machine shop, to get it checked out.
