215 V8 main seal(s) question

So I have the engine/trans out of the car and just got the tranny back from the rebuilder. While it's out I'd like to replace the front/rear main seals....a few questions:
1. I have a replacement rope seal for the rear, how is this installed?
2. Is there an upgrade to the rope? I've heard that neoprene is better but can't seem to find one for my car ('63 F-85)
3. There doesn't seem to be a front seal, I took pulley off and can't see much in there....

Got the manifolds coated by jet hot, rebuilt carb and hoping to get her back on the road this weekend - any help is much appreciated.

look at this site, it has what you need. look at engines and components.

The upper rope seal is the easiest to install with the crank out. The front cover also uses a rope seal.
