1972 Cutlass 350 Elelbrook 3711 intake
Hello all Just looking for some info I have a stock 350 with a 3711 intake , an I am wanting to go with a Edelbrock carb
Carburetor, Edelbrock, 600 CFM, Performer, Electric Choke How good are these carbs Thanks for any info
I have a Q-jet on there now I had it rebuilt about year an a half ago an just can't get it to smooth out it surges at an idol But when its in gear surge go's away Thanks I will look into a Holly
I will look into a different guy to rebuild it. I was l lucky to have it out 10 times, in the last time I had it rebuilt only put 400 miles ago on it ran good for about 200 miles Thanks for the info
E-Brock carbs are fine and a lot easier to dial in than a Q-Jet. I would go with a 750 cfm since thats what most all Q-Jets are. If you are comfortable working on the carb yourself get a Edelbrock tuning kit for it and follow the instructions for the manual choke version of your carb even if it is a electric choke. Even if you have a mechanic tune it you will have a better outcome over a Q-Jet. Most mechanics can’t tune a Q-jet.
Ditch the 3711 and get a 7111 instead. The ports on the 7111 are still plenty small
enough to get good throttle response when using the right carb.
Next I’d recommend the 750 Brawler. Very easy to tune seeing as how it has changeable air bleeds, jets, power valves etc.
And as is typical, no one has yet to mention getting a wideband to do the job right. Don’t trust ANY carb builder short of Dale Cubic. They’re all just making an educated guess at best. Get a wideband.

There have been many disappointed people on this site who have bought Edelbrock carbs that tried everything to fix there ailments. The new AVS2 carbs would be the only one to even slightly consider. As Mark said, even a Qjet expert like Cliff Ruggles is making an educated guess, if you go the Qjet route. Get a wideband to tune your carb. It sounds like you need an idle circuit recalibration or you have a vacuum leak. Were the the throttle shaft bushings done on your carb? Is your motor bone stock?

Thanks for the info after doing some research I hook the vac advance to manifold vac an it smoothed out They took out the points Distributor an put in eletronic Distributor so I will explore this route now
The previous owner may have set the timing like the original points distributor calls. I have seen multiple curves but most HEI need around 20 degrees base to hit the 34 to 38 degrees needed. Basically the vacuum advance bumped the timing down low that it needed.
