In a perfect engine, at least 4.5 qt should drain out the plug. Another half quart will come out from the filter when it is removed. I often find at least 1/4 of that 1/2 will be running down my arm as I am unscrewing the filter...

Good...I feel better now that this happens to someone else. The other 4 1/2 quarts go just to side of where the pan is to catch the oil....

When I changed the oil I used 5 qt but you can always go from 4-5 qt's. I feel I put too much in though.

When putting the oil in, I put in four quarts and wait 15-20 minutes to allow it to drain down, then I pull the dipstick, wipe it, re-insert and pull it again to get an accurate reading. Make sure that you reference the cross hatch area on the dipstick.

None, hopefully...

Now, AFTER you change it, there should be five quarts.
