First off it could be the Edelbrock carb, many have issues with them. The timing advance is done by loosening a hold down to right of the base. Advancing, push the vacuum advance towards the firewall. You want 20 degrees at idle with the vacuum advance unhooked with the hose plugged.

Yes. The rotation of the rotor is counterclockwise but turning the vacuum advance clockwise advances timing.

A timing light is best to see exactly where it is. Basically go until it cranks over hard then turn it back a bit.

Oh jesus......unfortunately, if you super heat it with acetylene and it doesn't come out, it will most definitely need to come off the engine and get drilled out. Man, that sucks. BUT if you do need to pull the head off, may as well pull the other off and replace with a set of earlier heads. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news....

The top center one can be left as is. Many leave that bolt out with headers. An angle drill should reach the other one if heat or welding on a nut won't work.

What headers are you using? You should have bought the cheap Stainless long tubes. They hang low with your 350 but you are going 455 so they would work great with them.

You might be able to drill out the broken bolts from below if you have it up on a hoist. Of course, you'll need a right angle drill and short drill bit. Make sure you are centered and straight with the hole. You might be able to have a good "muffler shop" remove the broken bolts. I think your best bet is to have a GOOD muffler shop drill out the broken bolts and put the headers in.

Screw a 3/8 nut on the threads with red Loctite. Or weld the nut on. Then try putting a wrench on the nut taking it off.

Do both broken bolts have that much thread sticking out? First soak in a goo penetrant. You can heat the area around the bolts with a torch and then screw them right out with vice grips.
