1967 330 Lifter knock

As it states I have a bad lifter knock on the passanger side on my 1967 H.C. 330. Whats the fix? Do i have to replace the whole lifter? I tryed tighting the hold downs but that didnt work either.

you could try replacing the rockers and fulcrum[s]
It might be that simple.

might be as bad as a clogged lifter or wiped cam lobe.

$6 gamble on the rockers/ pivot pair

SEALED POWER Part # R856

better yet:

I think we need more details on this, as to what has been done to the engine, and exactly what the noise is?

Did you properly break in the new cam/lifters, and use assembly lube?
You may have wiped a lobe off the cam.........OR....it could be as simple as an exhaust leak......?

Just a tick, tick, tick. Yes the cam and lifters are new and I have tried to tighten the hold downs on the rocker assembly and it didn't work. I am going to try the rocker assembly but I will also inspect the pushrods. Thank you!

We rebuilt the whole top end including cam, lifters, timing chain/gear, replaced some valves and all new gaskets, we also pulled the oil pan and cleaned it up. What else do you need?

Unless your oil pressure is really low or your not flowing oil to the rockers, I would replace the noisy ones or go for the whole set because they will all start to do it eventually.

Well it is only one set(2) or maybe just one that is making the noise. I have no problem with oil pressure that I am aware of.

You can get a couple of sets to try from your local parts store.

Did you check valve stem height, valve stem clearance, and valves springs for concentricity?? An off-square valve spring can cause this, as well as a loose valve stem, worn rocker, rocker stand, or pushrod. Have you checked these?

And did you put an oil pressure gauge on it, or just going by the "oil light"??

And did you properly break in the cam with ZDDP and assembly lube?? You may have wiped off a cam lobe or two.

Heads were done by a shop back to stock specs, none of the rocker arms/stands were replaced, i do not have an oil preassure gauge and we did properly break in the cam.

What everyone is getting at is the factory pushrod length. Replacing vavles, thicker head gaskets, worn rockers and fulcrums and you have a pushrod length mismatch. The Olds valvetrain is not adjustable like Chevy so you need to find out if all your valve lashes are the same. You have some work to do. Hydraulic lifters have some adjustability built in but if there is too much lash in one or two the lifters will reach the limit of their adjustment and either the lifter or the rocker will 'tick". If everything is working ok except the "one" then a new rocker and fulcrum may fix it. Find the "one" and inspect it. Compare it to several others to see if a replacement would work. If not you may need to get a longer set of pushrods.

You can turn the engine by hand and check the feel of the pushrod-to-lifter clearance. With the lifters at their lowest point, loosen the fulcrums and check how much they tighten after first contact with the lifter. I have never actually done this but researched it a lot and will have to do it when I change the head gaskets on my 330 this summer. On Chevy motors the accepted written adjustment procedure is to tighten 3/4 turn after first contact with the lifter but I have found that 1/4 turn works best so on an Olds, I would guess that 1/4 to 1/2 turn of the fulcrum bolts after lifter-to-pushrod contact would be about right. If yours is too loose or the rockers are out of alignment then you need to get a new set. And of course check to make sure the cam is still in good shape while you are doing all this!
